In this one woman tour de force, Gene Raye Price stars as Alice B. Toklas on the eve of her eviction from the apartment that she and Gertrude Stein shared on Rue Christine.

Marty Martin’s script, The Necessary Luxury Company, paints an enchanting portrait of the notorious salons at 27 Rue de Fleurus where Picasso, Matisse, Cezanne, Braques and others of the movement came for dinner and conversation on Saturday evenings. Martin’s play is an intimate look at a moment in history that produced art and literature that would change the Western world. As a playwright he is able to mesmerize an audience with historical figures and the events of their lives as well as explore the political and cultural milieu that produced them.

Marty Martin’s understanding of this period of time as well as his affection for the artists, the Steins, Alice B. Toklas, and his love of the art combine to create a unique experience for an audience.
